Despite my name and avatar, I’m not voting for Power Rangers in my recommendations but it turns out that even if I wanted to – I can’t! A friend of mine let me know and whom didn’t want to post about it but I think it’s pretty important to share. Basically, if you search Power Rangers, there will be a bunch of things that show up, mostly movies and I guess tv movie episodes of specific sagas/arcs and such. However there is no option for Mighty Morphin’ as a whole, or any of the actual series (Zeo, Turbo, In Space, etc) except for Mystic Force for some reason.
I’m not sure how you go about fixing that since you mentioned previously you use the API of tvtime which upon looking up, there is an actual TV show result but it’s not showing on the Blind Wave recommendation page. Although the problem with that, even if you get that working, how do you distinguish between the other PR Series? There’s like 25 of them!
Do you just go in order? But it has to win a poll after each series concludes? Like voting for the same Power Rangers option that seemingly encompasses the entire show? And if so I might suggest doing a separate poll on which series? Although if you were to do it I strongly recommend doing it in order since the first 4 series act as one big story and even in the seasons afterwards there is some chronology of events, especially some very particular special episodes. Although there are some series I’d be happy for you to skip over to get to some of the later really good ones. My favourites being In Space, Time Force, Dino Thunder, SPD, Jungle Fury and RPM.
That seems like the only way to approach it if it were to ever to win. Also curious if you’ve ever thought about Power Rangers winning and how you’d approach it. Also would love to see you do a High/Dry to the Turbo movie! It’s a lot worse but I think can be good dumb entertainment!
And speaking of High/Dry, should people even bother recommending movies that might qualify for High/Dry because it seems like something you guys pick for yourselves and thus such recommendations can be wasted ones. Or can the recommendations have weight for High/Dry considerations? Might be good if there is a way to indicate whether movies have been seen or not or who would react to them or if it would be a High/Dry choice.
Also with the whole Wink system on the site (which I have mixed feelings mostly because it feels a bit unfair and always benefits those that can afford/choose to be a Beyond member), could we get a list of exactly what benefits each level gives because I was quite shocked when my recommendations suddenly weighted more once I reached Level 3 and I’m curious if that happens with every level.

P.S. Might be cool/interesting if you can look at other people’s recommendations? And maybe it’s something they can opt into showing or not if they’re cool with it.
